Meet the Author Series: Margie Akin
Dr. Marjorie Akin - Assistant Research Anthropologist at the University of California, RiversideDr. Marjorie Akin is an ethno-archaeologist of California and Western North America, with a special emphasis on numismatic archaeology. Her theoretical interests focus on the formation processes of material culture, especially the phenomenon of collecting. Other interests include the prehistory of California, and the field of applied medical anthropology. Dr. Akin’s published works include “Dong, Wen and Mon: The Recovered Asian Coins,” Monumenta Archaeologica 18 (UCLA Institute of Archaeology, Los Angeles, 1996) and “Passionate Possession: The Formation of Private Collections,” found in Learning from Things: Essays on Material Culture Studies, edited by David Kingery (Washington, DC, Smithsonian Institution Press, 1996). Dr. Akin will speak about what drives human beings to become collectors.
