Chris Abani, Graceland

Chris Abani is an Associate Professor at University of California, Riverside, and a professor in the MFA Program at Antioch University in Los Angeles. A Middleton Fellow at the University of Southern California, he is also the recipient of the 2001 PEN USA Freedom-to-Write Award, the 2001 Prince Claus Award, a 2003 Lannan Literary Fellowship, the 2005 PEN Hemingway Book Prize and the 2005 Silver Medal of Fiction of the California Book Awards. He is the author of the novels Masters of the Board (Delta, 1985), GraceLand (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2004), and Becoming Abigail (forthcoming Akashic Books, 2006), and the poetry collections Dog Woman (Red Hen, 2004), Daphne's Lot (Red Hen, 2003), and Kalakuta Republic (Saqi, 2001).
