Print Journal Cancellation Project
Print Journal Cancellation Project
Budget and space planning for future years for the UCR Libraries is now underway to forge new and sustainable models to adequately support the UCR information environment. Annual subscription costs are continuing to increase by double digits and the UCR Libraries and the University of California at large are not anticipating a major budgetary increase given the current fiscal environment. We have, therefore, determined that we need to eliminate duplicate serial formats whenever possible to assist us in maintaining current journal subscriptions, to balance library investments in book and media resources, and to purchase new priority journal titles when feasible.
We seek broad faculty participation in our serials review process outlined below to ensure that we continue to meet research and teaching needs for all disciplines. The review period will be 3 weeks (May 8 - June 3). For background information and complete details, see the University Librarian letter to faculty.
Review Process
To assist faculty with making retention recommendations, each print serial title on the list also includes annual subscription costs and a column to recommend retention. Remember that we have access to all of these titles online. It is ONLY the print subscriptions that we are considering for cancellation, NOT online access. Please contact the following individuals if you have questions or comments about the project or the website survey:
- Barbara Schader, AUL for Collections and Scholarly Communications, bschader@ucr.edu or x24614.
