Possible UC Boycott of Nature Journals
Possible UC Boycott of Nature Journals
UC faculty members and researchers are considering a possible boycott of the Nature Publishing Group (NPG) journals. UC Libraries will face an unprecedented 400% increase in the cost to license access to 67 Nature journals for the calendar year, 2011. This increase is the equivalent of nearly $1 million annual cost over the current fiscal year. We urge you to read this important Letter to UC Faculty on Nature Publishing Group Subscription Increases, which has been jointly prepared by the University Libraries and the University Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication. The California Digital Library (CDL) News and Media web page is updated with additional information, including responses from NPG as they are received.
Please contact me directly with your comments and concerns at ruth.jackson@ucr.edu
Please also feel free to direct comments and concerns to Steven Inchcoombe, managing director of NPG, or other members of the executive committee at execu@nature.com. In addition, we would appreciate receiving a copy of your correspondence with any member of the Nature Publishing Group's executive committee.
Sincerely,
Ruth M. Jackson, Ph.D.
