Hurricane Katrina: What Went Wrong - Brown Bag Seminar Event on Thursday, August 26 at 12pm-1pm
Hurricane Katrina, August 29, 2005, was one of the worst disasters to hit the United States, resulting in 1836 deaths and $81.2 billion in damages. Some scientists in Louisiana call the event a “man-made” catastrophe.
Marie Bronoel, UCR Librarian, will present a seminar Thursday, August 26, from 12 to 1 PM in the Orbach Science Library, Room 240. Marie recently returned from New Orleans where she attended educational sessions about the geology of the Katrina disaster and participated in guided fieldtrips to levee sites and devastated areas.
At this seminar, photographs and dynamic graphs will illustrate the geology of New Orleans, the destructive path of Katrina, flooding, and the sequence of levee breaks. Reflecting on the tragedy five years ago, the program will close with a few recorded oral histories from survivors.
Bring your lunch.
