Jodie Holt will be discussing her consulting work on the making of the movie, Avatar.
Jodie S. Holt is Professor of Plant Physiology and past Chair of the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences at the University of California, Riverside.
In her position at UC Riverside she and her students conduct research on ecology of weedy and invasive plants to contribute to ecologically sound weed management practices. The third edition of her co-authored book, Ecology of Weeds and Invasive Plants: Relationship to Agriculture and Natural Resource Management, was released in August 2007. In 2008 she won the UCR Distinguished Teaching Award for 2008-09.
Her most recent activity was serving as a botanical consultant to the film, Avatar, directed by James Cameron, and the related game products, which feature a botanist in the lead role. In her spare time she loves to garden and to spend time outdoors.
