Let's Celebrate Read-Across-America Day
The UCR Libraries will be celebrating Read-Across-America Day on March 2 with a display of Dr. Seuss books and Theodor Seuss Geisel Award-winning titles in the Rivera Library's Education Services unit. Read-Across-America Day was initiated in 1998 by the National Education Association as a special day to celebrate reading. The Day is celebrated on March 2, the birth date of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. Many individuals as well as organizations celebrate this day by reading books to children.
Dr. Seuss favorites such as Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat have been used by educators over the years to teach many children to read. The Theodor Seuss Geisel Award is given annually to authors and illustrators of books which, in the spirit of Dr. Seuss, are both engaging and at a reading level accessible to emerging readers.
We invite you to celebrate this day by reading a book to the children in your life! The UCR Libraries collection of Children's and Young Adult Literature, located in the Education Services area in the north wing of the 2nd floor of the Rivera Library, has a wide selection of books available for your reading pleasure. Tell us how you celebrated on one of the Library's Facebook pages at fb.com/ucrlibraries or fb.com/UCREducationServices.
