New Digital Resources: PLoS Biology

PLoS Biology is a new model in scientific publishing. Launched on October 13, 2003, this free access journal is available online through Scotty, the UCR Library Catalog or directly on the web.
The Public Library of Science (PLoS) is a non-profit organization of scientists and physicians based on principles of free, unrestricted access of scientific literature, as well as high standards of quality, fair peer-review, and expert editorial oversight. This three-year old organization plans on publishing another journal, PLoS Medicine, in 2004. See also: UC Libraries: Reshaping Scholarly Communication for press release posted April 1, 2004.
About the Cover (Volume 1 Issue 1, 2003)
The cover shows native Borneo elephants, which are now recognized as genetically distinct from other Asian elephants. The Borneo elephants are therefore a high priority for conservation.
