New Digital Resources: Research Tool for Medievalists
![]() |
UCR Libraries now offers scholars an unprecedented opportunity to further their research in early European social history and the development of Christianity, from the foundation of the Church to the Reformation. |
The Acta Sanctorum database is the complete printed text of the original 68 volumes of the Acta Sanctorum, published over a period of 300 years by the Société des Bollandistes in Antwerp and Brussels. It examines the lives of saints, organized by each saint's feast day. Included are all prefatory material, original texts, critical apparatus and indices. Bibliotheca Hagiographica Latina reference numbers, essential for scholars, are also provided.
Although the text is primarily in Latin, the database has an English language search engine and help. Access points include keyword, Greek keyword, title, saint, feast day, and gender of saint. Additionally, you can limit searches to particular sections of the text. A cross-search option allows users to find search terms in both the Acta Sanctorum Database and the Patrologia Latina Database. Also, Brill's edition of Jan Frederik Niermeyer's Mediae Latinitatis Lexicon Minus is available from the search page.
