New Digital Resources: NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research) Working Papers Online
NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research) Working Papers are now available online to the UCR community. These key resources in economics, which used to cost $5 per paper, are now freely available in pdf format from all UCR web addresses. Remote access is possible for UCR students, faculty and staff from off campus via a remote access server.
While not peer reviewed at the time of inclusion in this database, these working papers are, according to the NBER, “intended to make results of NBER research available to other economists in preliminary form to encourage discussion and suggestions for revision before final publication.”
Founded in 1920, the NBER is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how the economy works. More than 500 university professors around the country, all leading scholars in their fields, conduct NBER research. NBER researchers initially report their findings in scientific papers aimed at other professional economists in academic institutions, business, government, and the business media around the world. Nearly 500 NBER Working Papers are published each year, and many subsequently appear in scholarly journals.
NBER Working Papers can be accessed via the SCOTTY Catalog (enter a title search for “NBER Working Papers”) or via the alphabetical or subject lists of databases on the Library’s home page. Roughly 7,000 papers issued from 1973 to the present are included. Abstracts are available for papers issued since September 1993. The papers can be searched by keywords, JEL class, or NBER Program classification.
