New Digital Resources: Journal Citation Reports available Campuswide
The UCR Libraries is pleased to announce Journal Citation Reports (JCR) on the Web. JCR is a database that uses information from Web of Science (WoS) to compare over 7,600 journals within and across research fields. UCR researchers and administrators can search JCR-Science Edition (covering 5928 science titles in 171 subject areas) and JCR-Social Sciences Edition (covering 1,716 social science titles in 55 subjects). Arts and Humanities journals aren't covered in JCR.
By examining impact factors for a list of journals in a field, researchers can decide on which journals to submit papers or evaluate published papers. Administrators can use rankings within a field to analyze the journals in which researchers publish.
JCR is being used more and more in hiring, promotion and tenure decisions. Impact factors and related statistics are a method of quantifying prestige or quality of a journal in a field, serving as one element in determining academic quality. The short essay "Using the Journal Citation Reports Wisely" is a 'must read' for all who want to use JCR.
Use WoS and JCR together to investigate researchers' output, number of times their articles are cited, and the ranking of journals in which authors publish.
