Searching Tips

Trajan

Modern Author: Search last name only, then narrow

Full Text: Searches the full citation entry, not the full text of the article

Ancient Author: Search Ancient Greek authors in their Latin forms.  "V" appears as "u" unless the name starts with V.  Fortunately, when the search is run, the name is automatically truncated, so Latin endings shouldn’t be a problem.

Livy -> Liuius (Titus)
Ovid -> Ouidius
Virgil -> Vergilius Maro

Subjects and Disciplines: Uses broad headings

Date: Allows searching by date of modern publication

Languages: Articles appear in many European languages. Abstracts can be in English, French, or German, and don't necessarily correspond to the language of the article. If the title and abstract are in English, the original is in English, too. Sometimes articles with Greek or Latin titles are in English, too. To limit search by a particular language, use Other Criteria--Language.

L'Annee Philologique (APh) uses abbreviated journal titles, e.g.  PACA (Proceedings of the African Classical Association) or StudRom (Studi romani). Expanded titles are provided when you mouse over the abbreviation.
