New Digital Resources: Times Digital Archive
Researchers now can search through the back issues of one of the best known newspapers in the world, Times Digital Archive, 1785 - 1985.
Considered as the "world's newspaper of record, " the Times has covered all major international historical events from the French Revolution to the Falkland War. And the entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements, birth/death notices, and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching. It includes thousands of book and theatre reviews, a wealth of items on royalty, daily reports on Parliamentary debates, business news, etc.
Using keywords and hit-term highlighting to retrieve full facsimile images of either a specific article or a complete page, you can search the full text of the entire newspaper or limit to advertising, business, editorial/commentary, features, news, people, and picture gallery. Even the crossword puzzles, first published in 1930, are available!
Please note that the The Sunday Times is a distinct newspaper with no editorial connection to The Times (London), and is not included in this database.
