Bibliographies

Bibliographies are listings of publications on specific subjects, persons, or period. Guides identify standard works and major writings in a discipline.

Search by subject and the subheading.

Example: Luther, Martin 1485-1546 -- Bibliography

Some national bibliographies are under Bibliography, National followed by the name of the country. Keyword searches can be used but will retrieve any mention of the word "bibliography."

Historiographies

Historiographies are the study of the way history has been and is written -- the history of historical writing.

First search catalogs by keyword. As a subject, Historiography will be used as both a Subject Heading and a Subheading.

Example: Historiography -- Germany or Zionism -- Historiography.

Reader's guide to ... are a great series of historiographies available in the Reference section.

There are several historiographies in circulating stacks such as:

Overviews

The best way to find overviews are through guides, bibliographies, etc. Also try searching catalogs with keywords: Companion, Encyclopedias, Reader, etc.  

Biographies / Autobigraphies

Search by keywords. Note that that many biographies are under broader Subject Headings.

Example: Statesmen -- Portugal -- Biography or Waffen-SS -- Biography
