Oswald Jonas Memorial Collection
Collection number: 067
Extent: 85.0 linear feet (86 document boxes, 10 record storage boxes, 1 flat storage box, unboxed material)
The Oswald Jonas memorial collection combines the papers of the Austrian music theorist Heinrich Schenker (1868-1935) with the papers of Oswald Jonas (1897-1978), a distinguished Schenker pupil and loyal disciple. Also included in the collection are numerous musical scores, many of which are first editions, of works by 18th and 19th-century Germanic composers. Dr. Jonas was a Professor of Music at UCR from 1966-1978.
Other collections include first and early editions of printed music by various composers, the Marcella Craft Collection (Craft, (1874-1959), was Riverside's famous opera singer), all the editions and arrangements of music by Danish composer Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817-1890), and several early editions of books on music published between the 16th and 18th centuries.
