The Map Collection is located on the Ground Floor of the Orbach Science Library. Staff will assist in finding sheet maps, atlases, gazetteers, aerial photographs, and digital spatial data. The map cases and alcove contain over 100,000 sheet maps. The collection consists primarily of U.S. Geological Survey topographic and thematic maps, and map series of different countries of the world. Maps are shelved in call number order, and you can ask for help at the public service desk. Most individual maps are not yet cataloged, but are searchable through the local Map Collection database. Large atlases are shelved on special roller atlas shelves. Other atlases, reference materials and gazetteers are on the shelves located farthest east. These materials are cataloged, and can be found in SCOTTY, UCR Library's online catalog. Geographic Information Systems software and digital geographic spatial data is available in the Digital Map Room. Equipment includes: four pc's using Windows XP, NT, and 2000, a plotter, burner, scanner, and printer. These are available for use with cartographic materials in the Map Collection. |
