Collections
Education Services is an excellent source for various types of instructional materials used in schools.Children & Young Adult
In the Children & Young Adult Collection, you will find:
- Award winning children's books
- Different genres of juvenile literature, from biographies and fantasies to picture books, plays and poetry
- Works in other languages, such as Spanish, French and Navajo
at the Rivera Circulation Desk, located on the 1st Floor.

Professional
The Professional Collection contains:
- Educational resources across all curriculum areas and skill levels for Grades K-12
- Helpful resources for creating lesson plans, classroom management and bulletin board display ideas

Textbook
The Textbook Collection consists of: |
- K-12 textbook and ancillary material that have been adopted by California schools in all subjects
Items can be checked out for a period of 2 weeks at the Rivera Circulation Desk, located on the 1st Floor.

Here you will find a host of unique and interesting items, such as: |

- Textbook supplements, such as transparencies or CD-ROMS

- Ability/Skills Assessments Collection
Textbook supplementary items in the Curriculum Materials Collection can be checked out for a period of 2 weeks.
Educational Tests can only be checked out through Education Services and only by GSE students for 1 week. Other patrons may make use of the Test Collection at Education Services only.
All other items can be checked out for a period of 4 weeks at the Education Services Office.
Renewals for all items must be done through the Education Services office only, via in person, phone or email.
Media
Here you will find: |
- Videos, DVDs, cassettes and CD-ROMs for elementary and middle school students on a wide range of topics.
In SCOTTY, media materials are displayed as "EducServ Secured AV". These must be retrieved and checked out only by Education Services staff for a period of 4 weeks.
Renewals must be done through the Education Services office only, via in person, phone or email.
Reference
In our Reference Collection you will find: |

Services
Education Services works in many ways for students, faculty, staff and the general public. Information and assistance may be requested at the Education Services desk during posted service hours.Our Student-Teachers
Our primary focus is to serve those students who are enrolled in UCR's Teacher Accreditation Program.For such students, we can provide:
- Lesson plan assistance
- Various resources to reinforce your lessons
- Award-winning literature for storytime
- Assistance locating materials on various topics related to teaching
- Access to hard-to-find to textbooks and ancillaries
Our Faculty
We collaborate with faculty in the Graduate School of Education to:- Provide orientations and tours of Education Services for your classes.
- Gather subject-specific curriculum materials for class use
- Compile related reading lists and/or bibliographies
- Answer research queries via email
The Community
Education Services is available anyone in our community who is committed to education.- Teachers may obtain courtesy borrowing privileges at UCR, allowing them to check-out material for use in their schools instead of purchasing them at their own expense.
- Parents are welcome to use our collections to find interesting literature for their children, material to reinforce the lessons their child is learning or review the textbooks their children are currently using.

K-12 Databases
Find materials from children's magazines and encyclopedias!- EBSCO Animals
- Thousands of easy-to-read entries about mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, dinosaurs and prehistoric animals, containing simple category breakdowns of the animal (e.g. Kingdom, Class, Order) as well as a detailed description. Many entries include colorful images.
- Primary Search
- Article citations from over 70 popular, elementary school magazines, many with full text. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is available for thousands of biographies and historical essays as well. Also contains reference sources, primary source documents and an image collection of photos, maps and flags.
- Middle Search Plus
- Article citations from over 140 popular, middle school magazines, many with full text. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is available for thousands of biographies and historical essays as well. Also contains reference sources, primary source documents and an image collection of photos, maps and flags.
- Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia
- Over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.
The LRDC
UC Riverside's Rivera Library hosts the Learning Resource Display Center (LRDC) for Riverside County. The LRDC houses copies of textbooks either adopted or under review by the California Department of Education for all subject areas K-8.
Educators from local schools may review these materials to determine which textbooks will fit best with their district. Our library staff works closely with the Riverside County Office of Education to best serve the needs of county educators.
The general public is also invited to evaluate which instructional materials under review best represent the California school curriculum.
The LRDC is located on the north end of the 2nd floor of Rivera Library in Room 217, near Education Services. Please go to the Education Services Office (Rivera Library, Rm. 205) for admittance.

Those who wish to visit the LRDC outside of these normal business hours are requested to make an appointment in advance.
Groups of four or more are asked to call ahead to schedule a group visit.

Christina Cicchetti Reference/Education Librarian christina.cicchetti@ucr.edu Christina Cicchetti joined the Rivera Library on June 1, 2007 as the Reference/Education Librarian. She oversees the Education Services unit (curriculum/teacher education resource center) and is responsible for all library collections in the area of education. Christina began her career in teaching as a Media Center Director and English Teacher for a private high school in Portland, OR. After graduate work in library science, she transitioned to the world of academic libraries but continued to utilize her background in education. At La Sierra University, she managed the Curriculum Resource Center for 12 years. Most recently she held the position of Education Librarian at the University of La Verne where she worked closely with students and faculty in the University of La Verne's teacher credentialing, masters, and doctoral programs. She holds an M.S. in Information Studies from Drexel University's College of Information Studies and an Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from La Sierra University's School of Education. |

Christopher Martone Coordinator, Education Services/LRDC christopher.martone@ucr.edu Christopher Martone has been with UCR and the Rivera Library since July of 2006, when he made the move to California from New York. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of Education Services as well as the LRDC and is directly available to handle any patron inquiries concerning the unit as a whole. Christopher has over 10 years of both teaching and library experience. As an educator, he taught History, Mathematics and Science in middle and high schools in the New York City metropolitan area. In addition, he has provided assistance to students and faculty at the Quinn Library of Fordham University and the Watson Library of the Columbia Business School. He holds a Masters degree in History from Fordham University as well as permanent certification as a teacher in the state of New York. |
