The Hand of B. Traven

"The hand that wrote the novels"

A rare artifact in the Heideman collection, this bronze cast of B. Traven's hand by sculptor Federico Canessi (1966) was acquired by Heidemann from Traven's wife, Rosa Elena Lujan, following their visit to the sculptor's studio in December of 1966.

Canessi also sculpted the distinctive bust of Traven for the Traven house in Mexico City.This photo from the Heidemann Collection shows Gerd Heidemann visiting Canessi in his Mexico City studio in 1966, shortly before the Traven bust was finished.
