An das Fräulein von S.....
During his Munich years, Ret Marut wrote scores of short stories, some of which were published in newspapers. Many others remained in his drawer. He also published An das Fräulein von S....., a story in letters from the front. Here he called himself Richard Maurhut. His friend Irene Mermet acted as the publishing company, "J. Mermet Verlag."
Typed manuscripts of the short stories as well as this rare numbered 1916 original edition of An das Fräulein von S..... are part of the Ret Marut/Ziegelbrenner collection at UC Riverside.

The lovingly-made volume was printed on deckel-edged paper and bound in red silk with black ribbon ties and decorative endpapers. |
Not surprisingly, the book was advertised regularly in Der Ziegelbrenner starting with the very first issue in 1917. Here is one such ad.
