Bernardo Giner Aliño: Tratado completo del naranjo, 1892
This lovely illustration showing a "pear-shaped" orange and a Malta orange is one of four color lithographs in this richly illustrated 290-page treatise published in Valencia, Spain. Steel engravings accompany the chapters on the history and taxonomy of the orange, cultivation (including the latest 1890s irrigation methods!), propagation and pathology, and a considerable chapter on the distillation of citrus blossom essence. The latter is perhaps explained by the fact that Bernardo Giner Aliño was the chemist and pharmacist of the Central Syndicate of Viticulture and the Agricultural Chamber of Valenica and director of its Laboratório Químico Agronomico (Agrichemical Laboratory).
