"Writing a Research Paper"
Supplying proper citations will:
- support your arguments
- acknowledge the work of other authors and helps you avoid plagiarism
- standardize the format of your paper and allows other researchers to easily "retrace your steps"
Which style should you use?
There are different citation styles that vary from discipline to discipline. Always consult your instructor for the format used in your class. The following links list online resources and books that provide help with citing in the most common formats. Paper handouts can also be found at the Libraries Reference Desks for the most common styles.
