  Hints:

  1. Use “Boolean connectors” (AND, OR) to refine your search.
    • OR is more. It broadens results.  Use for synonyms, different country names, etc.  For example:
      • UCR or UC Riverside or University of California, Riverside
    • AND narrows search results.  Use to focus results to a specific country.
  2. Remember to change the right side box to “keywords.”

    CSA Search Screen
  3. Click the “Journal Articles Only” box on the search page to eliminate dissertations from the results.
  4. On the results page, Click “Peer-Reviewed Journals” to further focus your results.

    Example 1
  5. When you pull up a record, copy the entire line if the “SO:” (source) field.  You may need it to retrieve the article.
  6. Use UC-eLinks   UC-eLinks
       UC-eLinks provide an easy way move from an article citation to the full text.  For online material it provides a link to the text.  For print material it links to the catalog for the call number.  If UCR does not own the item you need, use Interlibrary Loan.
  7. For print articles, those with dates less than 2 years old or so are in the Rivera current periodicals area filed alphabetically by title.  Older ones are in the “stacks” filed by call number.
  8. You can save/print/email citations by selecting records, clicking Update Marked List, and finally clicking the Save, Print, Email link (see above).
  9. The QuikBib option on the “Save, Print, Email” menu generates a bibliography of selected records in a variety of bibliographic styles, including Chicago.  Turn off any popup blockers before clicking “Create”.
    1. Warnings: 1) the citation is to the “Worldwide” database, not the full text;
      2) The final authority for a citation's format is your professor.  Check if you are unsure.
