1 - Emily Stambaugh, the Social Sciences Bibliographer, was welcomed to LAUC-R.

2 - The minutes of the March 8th meeting were accepted with corrections.

3 – Announcements:

Michael is writing the charge to an Ad Hoc committee that will recommend which documents LAUC-R should archive.

The proposal to merge the Committees on Research with the Committee on Professional Development will be on the elections ballot as a bylaw change pending the current chair's comments.  The bylaws change on multi-year committee memberships will also be on the ballot.

Kuei distributed an extract of bylaw changes.  He will distribute the proposed text via email after the meeting.  He requested feedback by Monday, May 16th so any changes can be incorporated.

Kuei announced the CACLS slate.  Ken updated the membership on the LAUC slate.  Nominations from the floor were taken.

Michael briefed the members on progress on the Systemwide Position Papers and on the Instruction Roles Ad Hoc Committee.

The University of California Office of the President prepared and distributed a spreadsheet of librarians by rank and step.  The totals are misleading – UCR count includes librarians with temporary contracts.

The Systemwide Committee on Committees was charged to revamp the bylaws.  The report will be considered at the assembly.  Send any comments to Marie or Michael.

The LAUC-R Diversity Committee has prepared a program for June 2nd, from 2-4 in room 240.  Dr. Yolanda Moses, Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Excellence and Diversity, will speak.  Her lecture is titled, “Promoting and Supporting a Set of Core Values around Diversity.”  The program will be Webcast.

LAUC Systemwide is looking for representatives to a number of committees.  If you are interested in having your name forwarded, please contact Michael.

4 - New Business:

Vicki asked if there was anything controversial in the proposed LAUC-R bylaws.  A short discussion followed about implementing the 2 year committee memberships.  That procedure was not written into the bylaws but will be up to the incoming administration to implement.

5 - The reception for new librarians, Emily, Margaret, Sylvia, and Krista, followed the business meeting.

Respectfully submitted
Kenneth Furuta
