Library Facilities Master Plan

Library Facilities Master Plan

The University Libraries and UCR's Capital Planning Department are currently undertaking a study to develop a Library Facilities Master Plan for the purpose of redesigning the libraries for the 21st century information and higher education environment.  The goal of the study is to envision the future of Libraries for the next 10 years as the University increases undergraduate and graduate enrollment to 25,000 students, and expands its profile of both academic and research programs. The study will also lay the groundwork for proposed library facilities and services to be made available on both the existing East and proposed West campus as the University expands.

The study will focus on testing program and facilities resource assumptions related to the campus main library. The space study will include analysis of the following components:

  • Development and confirmation of concept program assumptions and related facilities resource requirements for the main campus library (Rivera Library);
  • A plan to accommodate the concept program for the Rivera Library, identifying renovation, additions and reuse potential of existing facilities for this purpose;
  • Feasibility of 24 hour study room / learning commons;
  • Relationship of utilization of main library space in relation to major library branches (Science, Music, Multimedia, and Palm Desert).
  • The nature and extent of future services to be accommodated within the facilities
  • Future space requirements
  • The potential to use existing facilities for future use
