Date: Sep 13, 2018
Time: 9:30am - 11:30am
Location: Tomás Rivera Library, 4th Floor, Special Collections Reading Room
Closest Parking: Parking Lot P6

The contemporary artists' book was originally conceived as a means of providing accessible art across the spectrum of a society. It has evolved into allowing the artists to use the format of the book as the canvas or support for their chosen medium.

If you've never seen artists' books, watch this video.

Bill and Vicky Stewart, the owners of Vamp & Tramp, a well-known bookshop based in Birmingham, Alabama that deals only in artists’ books, will visit UCR Library on Thursday, September 13, 2018.

They will display a large number of their current stock in Rivera Library, 4th Floor, Special Collections Reading Room from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 am. All books on display will also be available for purchase.

This will be a very hands-on event where all attendees will be able to experience artists’ books as they are meant to be used. Both Bill and Vicky have an amazing inventory and an impressive knowledge of the genre. They enjoy interacting with students and sharing their knowledge.

Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite book in the display, which UCR Library will purchase for Special Collections & University Archives and make available for student and faculty use in SCUA.
