B. Traven is the nom de plume of the author of Der Schatz der Sierra Madre (1927), published in English as The Treasure of the Sierra Madre in 1935 and made into a film starring Humphrey Bogart and John Huston in 1948, and other adventure stories. The author’s real name, nationality, place and date of birth, and other biographical details are all uncertain and the subject of extended and continuing dispute.

The UCR Library has hundreds of printed books by and about B. Traven, and extensive collections of materials documenting researchers’ efforts to ascertain the facts about this enigmatic writer.
