Library User Privacy Policy

Your privacy while using the UCR Library and our website is an important element of your intellectual and academic freedom.

The Library follows these principles in collecting and utilizing personal information:

  • Information is collected only as allowed by law.
  • Information collected is used to conduct normal business in the daily operation of the library and the university.
  • You have the right to review the information in your library record.
  • The collection of personal information is limited to what is relevant and necessary in order to conduct business.

The information in your library record is considered to be confidential and we will not release this information to anyone, unless by order of the court or through a search warrant. This policy is for an individual's protection and in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) , the constitution of the State of California, the State of California Information Practices Act of 1977 and other applicable federal and state laws.

Our website routinely collects information to help improve functionality and navigation and to monitor performance. This information is not personally identifiable. Examples of information collected by the website include:

  • your Internet location (IP address)
  • pages on the site you visit
  • the URL of the web page from which you came to the site
  • software you use to visit the site and its configuration

The Library website links to other sites and services that are not contained nor controlled within the Library's online environment. Where the Library contracts with vendors for digital information products and resources, every attempt is made to include user privacy protections in the license agreements. However, the practices of these external sites are not under the control of the Library; thus, users are encouraged to read the privacy statements at those sites to learn of their privacy practices.
