B. Traven and the Movies


Many of B. Traven's stories have been turned into films, among them The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948, Warner Brothers), La Rebelión de los Colgados – The Rebellion of the Hanged (1954, José Kohn), Das Totenschiff – The Death Ship (1959, UFA/José Kohn), Macario (1960, Films Mundiales), La Rosa Blanca – The White Rose (1961, Films Mundiales) and The Bridge in the Jungle (1971, United Artists).

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart, is the best-known of the films based on Traven books.

While consulting on the filming of his book The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, he presented himself to director John Huston as “Traven's agent” Hal Croves.
