The B. Traven Collections:
A View of the Exhibit Cases

Traven Exhibit Poster, 2006

The poster for the exhibition combined the 1990 Büchergilde Gutenberg poster honoring their famous author, B. Traven, with a cover of a Ziegelbrenner issue and the jacket from the 1967 Hill and Wang edition of Traven's most famous novel, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

The exhibition was on view at UC Riverside Libraries' Special Collections Department from March through August 2006.

Exhibit Case 6

Exhibit Case 6 was dedicated to the Kohner family of filmmakers and also showcased a few more editions of The Bridge in the Jungle.

The Kohner family is an international film powerhouse with multiple B. Traven connections. Paul Kohner, known as the Magician of Sunset Boulevard, was not only John Huston's agent ("Treasure of the Sierra Madre"), but also B. Traven's Hollywood representative from the 1930s to his death in 1969. Lupita Tovar Kohner, Paul's wife, a renowned Mexican screen actress best known for her starring role in the 1931 Spanish-language version of "Dracula," was admired by Traven, who corresponded with her and wrote screenplays just for her, though these were never realized. Pancho Kohner, son of Paul and Lupita, wrote and directed the 1971 film of Traven's Bridge in the Jungle starring John Huston.
