  Han Yen-Chihs Chu Lu

The oldest known book on the orange: Han Yen-Chih's Chu lu, written in 1178 A.D., described some twenty-seven varieties of sweet, sour and mandarin oranges. This English translation by Michael J. Hagerty of the Chü lu or Monograph on the Oranges of Wen-chou, Chekiang, was published in 1923 in Leiden. The earliest reference to citrus fruits of any kind appears in the book Yu Kung or Tribute of Yu (the Emperor Ta Yu, who reigned from 2205 to 2197 B.C.), which is mentioned by Han Yen-Chih in this work.
