René Le Berryais: Traité de l'orangerie ..., 1788

  In his 4-volume set published in Caen and Paris between 1785 and 1788 titled Traite des jardins, ou le nouveau De La Quintinye, contenant la description et la culture, … Rene Le Berryais describes the cultivation of fruit trees, house plants, ornamentals, and in the fourth (and present) volume, the orangery, the hot-house and the art of espalier. It is a more general treatment of tropical and subtropical exotic plants and gives detailed instructions and finely-executed illustrations on how to build the hothouses and lath houses necessary to cultivate the exotics – including citrus.
