Ads in Books

Some paperbacks have ads inserted, mostly in the middle of the book. These ads are usually on thick glossy paper in color. When found, add a note to the bib record giving information on the type of ad and where it is located.

If you have 2 copies of the same printing of a book and 1 has an ad and the other doesn't, try to determine if the one lacking the ad has any signs that it ever had one. If it looks like it didn't then we would want to keep both copies in Eaton and make a note saying which copy has the ad.

Example 1: The 2 copies of The proud enemy by F.M. Busby are exact duplicate printings. One copy has an ad for Kent cigarettes between pages 92 & 93. The other does not have the ad and shows no signs that it ever had it. Both copies are cataloged for Eaton.

Example 2: The 2 copies of The lost valley of Iskander by Robert E. Howard each have an ad for Kent/True cigarettes between pages 84 & 85. One copy is cataloged for Eaton and the other for Rivera Stacks.
