Dissertations

Search SCOTTY to find UCR dissertations.

  1. Look for dissertations by the author or title
  2. Search for dissertations by department with a subject search, or browse by UCR department.

Dissertations published electronically will have a link in SCOTTY and Melvyl to the online version at Proquest Digital Dissertations.  If a UCR dissertation from 2011- is not available in Proquest, check the UC Dissertation Respository

A circulating print copy of dissertations submitted before 2010* may be housed either in the Rivera Library or in the Orbach Science Library depending on the subject matter,

  • Rivera Library - Found at the call number locations indicated in Scotty.
  • Orbach Science Library - Shelved under the call number, Q180 A495.  Browse by year and then by the author's last name.

Theses

Use SCOTTY, the UCR online catalog, to find copies of UCR theses deposited with the UCR Libraries. You can directly search for theses by author or title, or use a keyword search:

Examples:

  • thesis (M.A.) and riverside
  • thesis (M.B.A) and riverside
  • thesis (M.S.) and riverside

You must use the AND operator in the Quick Search box. You will see that the words Thesis and Riverside are in the Notes field, not the Subject Heading.

*Dissertations and Theses submitted after 2009 but before 2013, will no longer be available in print in the Libraries, but will be housed at the the Southern Regional Library Facility (SRLF). UCR students, faculty and staff may obtain items stored at SRLF by contacting our Interlibrary Loans Department. Dissertations submitted after 2012 will not be available in print in the Libraries or SRLF.

Other UC Dissertations

UC dissertations (Including UCR dissertations) can be found in the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database.

Sample search query for ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT)

The full-text of UC dissertations from 1998 to the present are available through the PQDT, unless the author has put an embargo on them.

Dissertations and Theses from Other Universities

Try searching the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database or WorldCat Dissertations.

If you need a dissertation from a non-UC school or another UC campus before 1998, you can order it through our Interlibrary Loans Department.

For Our Visitors (Non-UCR)

Members of the public are welcome to browse UCR disserations in the library or in the eScholarship repository.  They might be also be able to request dissertations through the Interlibrary Loans Departments of their local libraries. Otherwise, they can order them directly from Dissertation Express
