More Information on the SAE Digital Library
As of early 2007, we no longer have access to the SAE Digital Library. They changed their models for pricing and for protecting their content and their new models were unacceptable. The new model would have made it difficult to download and to print articles and would have placed limitations on how many papers could be viewed and how many times. The library community as well as the community of researchers that publish with SAE were strong in their opposition to these restrictions, and some progress has been made in getting them to lift some of the controls. However, a lot of money has been spent on access to the product for the past several years (with no guarantee of perpetual access) and many libraries will be slow to trust this organization even if they do entirely reinstate the old model. The University of California as a whole, may not resubscribe to the SAE digital library anytime soon.
