Remote Access Eligibility

General Remote Access Information

The University of California, Riverside Library has determined the classes of users who are eligible for remote access through interpretation of licensing agreements with commercial information providers. UCR Computing and Communications (C & C) administers the provision of this access via campus remote access accounts, and provides support for remote access connection problems.

Eligible Users: Clarifying Notes:
UCR students Defined as regularly enrolled graduate and undergraduate students. [Must be eligible for or account.]
UCR faculty and librarians Includes adjunct faculty with an official UCR appointment and visiting scholars paid by UCR.
UCR staff and academic-non-senate employees Includes postdocs and Staff Research Associates paid by UCR.
Emeritus UCR faculty and librarians
UCR extension faculty and staff Part-time faculty are eligible while currently employed.
Researchers in laboratories and Organized Research Units affiliated with UCR i.e. USDA Salinity Lab appointees holding joint appointments in UCR departments and UC agricultural field station staff paid by UCR.

Not Eligible: Extension students, UCR alumni, retired staff, and USDA Forest Service (Fire Lab) personnel are not eligible to use the UCR Remote Access Servers. Remote access will not be granted to those persons at remote sites affiliated with the University who are not under the administration of the University of California at Riverside. Due to restrictions outlined in the licensing agreements, exceptions cannot be made to these eligibility categories.

Language Appearing in many License Agreements

For purposes of this agreement, "Authorized Users" means only the employees, faculty, staff, [and] students officially affiliated with the Subscriber, and persons with legal access to the library's collections and facilities on-site, using an IP address within the range identified."
"Authorized Users may be persons remote from the Subscriber's physical location whose access is administered from the Subscriber's site or campus, but not persons at remote sites or campuses with separate administrations. The Subscriber will exercise reasonable vigilance and shall be responsible for all access control, and security measures necessary to ensure that the Subscriber's IP addresses are not used to access the journal(s) by other than Authorized Users."
