FINDING PRIMARY SOURCES
FINDING PRIMARY SOURCES
How can I tell if something is a primary source?
An easy way to think about it is, if the information is from the time period you're researching then it's most likely a primary source. If it's about the time period, then it's most likely a secondary source. Remember, if a source is translated or reprinted the publication date does not indicate when the information was originally created.
Look at the SCOTTY record for clues. Clues include any "primary source keywords" like sources, personal narrative, or correspondence.
