Biosis via ISI
BIOSIS is the world's most comprehensive reference database for life science research. It covers original research reports and reviews in biological and biomedical areas. Nearly 6,000 serials are monitored for inclusion. In addition, the database covers content summaries, books and meeting abstracts, papers, posters and, approx. 16,000 U.S. patents.
Coverage is from 1969 to present.
There are two search modes available in the ISI interface:
General Search
The General Search offers search for records by subject terms, author name, journal title, author affiliation, taxonomic data, major concepts and many other fields.
You can also search by:
CHEMICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL: Enter the chemical, gene name, and sequence terms or CAS Registry Number. Example: lysine
PATENT ASSIGNEE: Enter the assignee name (available 1986-1989 & 1999 to present). Example: Scripps
MEETING INFORMATION: Enter words from the meeting title, location, sponsor, or date. Example: pharmacol* AND Cardiff AND 2000
IDENTIFYING CODES: Enter the accession, ISSN, ISBN, patent, US patent class, or patent date granted number. Example: 0-12-709861-
Advanced Search
Advanced Search enables you to create complex search queries using field tags, search operators, and wildcards.

Enter TS=(food AND toxicology AND bovine) to find records containing these terms in the title

Enter AU=(Watson and Crick) to find articles written by these two authors.

Enter TN=arthropods AND CC= movement to find records containing the taxa note arthropods and the concept code movement.
To Combine Searches:
1. Enter two or more set numbers from the Search History table. You can use the following Booleans in your
search query: AND, OR, NOT (e.g., #2 AND #4). Click the Search button.
2. In the Search History table, click the link in the Results column to view the results of your search.
Finding full-text and call numbers
Follow the
option for each record in order to:
- Link directly to the full text when available
- Check the Scotty/Melvyl Catalog to see if UCR has the item
- Request the item if UCR does not own it
Managing Results (Print save export or email)
Step 1.
Check the box next to each record that you want to include.
Step 2.
Select which fields you want to include in your output.
Step 3.

Print - The records will be formatted for printing, then click the Print button. Save - 1. Select a format for the records 2. Continue 3. Save. Export - Export the records directly into EndNote®, ProCite®, or Reference Manager®. E-mail - Send the selected records to an email address. You can also enter a return e-mail address and a note |
OR you can add items to the Marked List for later output and more options.
Save Search History
Click on the Search History button
Click Save History button (Web of Knowledge personal Log in required)
To save a search history as an Alert
(only the last search statement in a search strategy will be saved as an alert):
select the check box Send Me E-mail Alerts on the “Server Save” form
Enter e-mail address
Select an Alert type
Select an E-mail format and click
