• Dictionary of Literary Biography (Ref PN451 D5): Overviews of authors and their work in the larger context of literary history.   Many volumes.
• Contemporary Authors (Ref PN451 C65): A biographical and bibliographical guide to over 100,000 writers, both living and deceased,  in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama and other fields.  Many volumes.
• Cyclopedia of World Authors (Ref PN 451 C93 1997): Introductions to the lives and works of  over 2000 authors from around the world, from antiquity to the present.
• Critical Survey of Long Fiction (Ref PN 3451 C7 2000):  In-depth overviews of contemporary authors writing in the novel, novella, and other long-form genres.  Several volumes.
• American Writers (Ref PS129 A53): Information about the lives, careers, and works of major American writers.
• American Women Writers (Ref PS 147 A42 2000):  Biographical information about American women authors from the colonial period to the present day.  Several volumes.
• African American Writers (Ref PS153 N5 A344 2001): Biographical information, surveys of principal writings, and selected bibliographies.
• Modern American Women Writers (Ref PS151 M54 1991): Compilation of critical and biographical essays about women writers who have been published in the US since 1870.
• British Writers (Ref PR85 B688): Literary biographies of past and present British authors, as well as surveys of principal writings and selected bibliographies.
• European Writers (Ref PN501 E9 1983): Collection of articles devoted to European authors, with some treatment of genre, movements, and conventions. In chronological order, beginning with the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
