PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATIVE MEMORANDUM NO. 2.5

September 21, 1995

TO: Librarians
FROM: James C. Thompson
University Librarian
RE: Paid Leaves for Librarians

I am happy to announce that the Administration has approved the enclosed policy on paid leaves for librarians, Personnel Administrative Memorandum 2.5. PAM 2.5 is a set of guidelines for implementing the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding and the Academic Personnel Manual, each of which provides for such leaves, though only in general terms. The purpose of this PAM is to make a more detailed provision for the review and granting of leaves.

Because PAMS apply only within the administrative unit known as the UCR Library, these guidelines only affect librarians employed by that unit. Librarians in other administrative units who are covered by the APM and/or the MOU have the same general provisions for paid leaves, subject to the administrative oversight of their own units.

I want to thank the many librarians who made suggestions and comments. Most of your suggestions have been incorporated into the document. Please note one significant change since our discussions earlier this year: the time until eligibility is now six years rather than seven.

This PAM becomes effective immediately. Please contact me or John Tanno if you have any questions about its implementation.
