Before the Science Library

Before the Science Library was opened in the Fall of 1998, there were the Physical Sciences (PhySci) Library in the Geology Building and the Bio-Agricultural (BioAg) Library (picture) in a wing of Batchelor Hall.  The new library allowed the libraries to consolidate the collections and allowed expansion room for new materials. The older libraries were so space impacted that buying a new book sometimes meant deciding what book to get rid of.  The other libraries also did not have the room or the infrastructure to accommodate the number of computers that would be necessary to support the students in finding and utilizing information.

On the other hand, there were great memories in those buildings and they had functioned for many years as an excellent resource for the fine science research that was done here at UCR.
