California Water Resources Oral History Series

California Water Resources Oral History Series

The Water Resources Center of the University of California established the California Water Resources Oral History Series in 1965, to be carried out by the oral history offices at the Los Angeles and Berkeley campuses. The purpose of the program was to document historical developments in California’s water resources by means of tape-recorded interviews with people who have played a prominent role in this field. The concern of those who drafted the program was that, while the published material on California water resources described engineering and economic aspects of specific water projects, little dealt with concepts, evolution of plans, and relationships between and among the various interested federal, state, and local agencies.

Bound transcripts of these oral histories are preserved and made available to the public by the WRCA at UC Riverside and The Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley. Below is a list of these oral histories, presented in alphabetical order by the last name of the individual interviewed, with the exception of two topic-based compilations that include multiple interviews: California Water Issues & Save San Francisco Bay Association.
