San Francisco Bay Fund Inventory of Projects
Martin Luther King, Jr. Wetland Restoration Analysis Project
Organization: Golden Gate Audubon Society
2005 Grant Recipient - Alameda County
Purpose
Golden Gate Audubon monitored hydrology, geomorphology, ecology, and bird use of restored tidal and seasonal wetlands at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Shoreline Park. Wetlands and Water Resources Inc. conducted the wetland monitoring and Golden Gate Audubon volunteers performed the bird monitoring.
2012 Update
The San Francisco Foundation Bay Fund grant resulted in important bird-use monitoring data that can inform design of other restoration projects. The grant also enabled us to share “lessons learned” from this model restoration project with the broader restoration community. The “Year 8” monitoring report also revealed a substantial expansion in percent cover of invasive cordgrass on the site.
