Description of San Francisco water-related materials:
The Bancroft Collection includes material related to water and land issues in the bay area from the Spanish Colonial period to the present. Topics which can be explored include water supply, land and water use, urban development, landfill, landscape and watershed preservation/deterioriation, water rights, etc. All different formats are represented, including strong manuscript and pictorial resources. Among the most useful collections are the Michael Maurice O'Shaughnessy Papers, Spring Valley Water Company, Land Case records and maps, Save-the-Bay records, Sierra Club records (and many other environmental collections), Clyde Sunderland Photographic Collection.
Time Period: Pre-1848, 1848-1899, 1900-1920, 1921-1949, 1950-1963, 1964-1980, 1981-Present
