Banned Books Unleashed

Tuesday, October 10 - Friday, October 27
By University Librarian Steven Mandeville-Gamble |

Libraries around the United States have been faced with an unprecedented surge in attempted book bans.

At the UCR Library, we not only reject such efforts to ban books, we see it as our solemn responsibility to make the diverse voices and experiences of the people that make up the United States available to all readers.

In this pop-up exhibit on display in the Tomás Rivera Library, we present to you the Top 10 Most Banned Books in the United States in 2022 as identified by PEN America.

Copies of all of these books are available through the UCR Library either online, in print, or in most cases both.

For more information on PEN America’s efforts to track book banning in the United States, see: pen.org/issue/book-bans.
