California Department of Toxic Substances Control
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is responsible for protecting public health and the environment from threats posed by hazardous waste. DTSC: establishes regulations and requirements for the safe storage, transport, treatment and disposal of hazardous waste; oversees remediation of hazardous waste sites; and, works with industry to reduce the amount of hazardous waste that is created in California.

"The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) produces toxicological profiles for hazardous substances found at National Priorities List (NPL) sites." Each profile "succintly characterizes the toxicologic and adverse health effects information for the hazardous substance ... [and] identifies and reviews the key literature that describes a hazardous substance's toxicologic properties." Toxicological profiles are developed from a priority list of 275 substances."
