Spectral Data Resources

Spectral Data Resources

Spectral information is used by researchers in many scientific fields, including chemistry, medicine, biology, astronomy and geology.  In addition to the print resources listed in this guide, please consult the website for online spectral data resources.  SciFinder Scholar has included spectra for many compounds under property information.

To get basic information about procedures or terms used in spectroscopy, try:

CRC Handbook of Spectroscopy -- QD95 H27 v.1-3 Ref

A Dictionary of Spectroscopy -- QC450.3 D46 1982 Ref

Encyclopedia of Spectroscopy -- QC450.3 P47 1995 Ref

The Encyclopedia of Spectroscopy -- QC451 E53 1960 Ref

All of the resources named here are located in the Science Library. Those resources whose locations are designated as "Ref" are located in the first floor reference collection. All other resources are located on the second floor of the library. The Sadtler Spectral Series, a large spectral resource of IR, UV and NMR spectral data, is located at the top of the stairs on the second floor. A separate handout is available for the Sadtler Spectral Data--ask a reference librarian for more information.
