Reserves, Overnight Reserves, and Textbooks

Tip of the Week

Reserve BooksReserves are materials and resources that professors have identified to use for a class. They can either be print, electronic or audiovisual. Most print reserve material checks out hourly rounded to the nearest 2-hours. Multimedia Library material generally checks out for 3-hours rounded to the nearest hour. Electronic Reserves is available anytime through our Scotty Catalog.

TIPS:

  • You can check out items overnight if you come near closing time. Check here for times
  • You can reserve an item for overnight check-out. You can also place a hold on an item if it is checked out. Just come to the front desk where the item is on reserve with your campus ID.
  • Don't forget to bring the call number of your reserve item and your campus ID to the Circulation/Reserve desk. Find call numbers under reserves in Scotty.  Or, from the Library home page, use the Reserves tab to look up your class by professor or course number (e.g. chem 001a).
  • Many professors request textbooks to be placed on reserves. If your textbook isn't on reserve, check out our link on Tips for Finding Textbooks.
