Known Catalog Issues
In order to provide our Faculty and students with an up-to-date progressive library collections discovery interface, the UCR Library made a major transition to a new catalog interface last year.
While this new interface provides us with a robust system, including opportunities for innovative features in the future, there are a couple of known issues which the company supplying the interface is currently working on rectifying. One such issue affects your ability to view our full electronic journal and book holdings easily when you perform a search.
When the library owns both an electronic copy of a journal through its UC-wide subscription and a local print copy of an item, the system is not overlaying correctly and results in the appearance that we either do not have the electronic item or the electronic version appears far down in the list.
This does NOT affect journals which we have purchased locally.
Temporary solutions
First try clicking on the “available online” option from the facet menu on the left hand side; this will sometimes ensure the electronic journal is at the forefront, other times it remains further down the results list.
If you are looking for a specific e-journal, try our A-Z journals list at ucelinks.cdlib.org/sfx_ucr/az.
If you are still unable to access the items you are looking for, please contact Carla Arbagey, Collection Strategist for Arts & Humanities and E-resources lead.
Ex Libris, the company, providing our catalog interface, has stated that this issue will be fixed in November 2019.

National History Day Learning Lab Held at UCR
UCR Library co-sponsors National History Day Learning Lab in collaboration with National Archives at Riverside and Orange County Department of Education
The event, aimed at assisting 6th through 12th grade students with their National History Day projects, was held at UCR on Saturday, November 7th. Educators, archivists, and students from throughout Southern California participated in the day-long event that featured sessions on a variety of topics, including research methods, how to conduct oral histories, and locating primary, secondary, and online resources. Students were also offered research consultations with an archivist or librarian to assist them with their projects.
Dr. Alexander Haskell, Associate Professor of History at UCR, set the tone for the day with his keynote address emphasizing the importance of historical research. UCR librarians Christina Cicchetti and Eric Milenkiewicz were also available to assist with the various sessions and research consultations offered to the students. The day's activities concluded with tours of the Rivera Library exhibit space and the Special Collections & University Archives reading room.

Antiquarian book fair supports Special Collections
Proceeds from Rare Books Palm Springs’ opening night cocktail reception benefited a variety of organizations, including our Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA).
The UCR Library gladly joined Rare Books LA, the premier producer of antiquarian book fairs in California, for a new show — Rare Books Palm Springs!
Rare Books LA produces rare book fairs which feature leading specialists in antiquarian books, fine prints, photography, ephemera, maps, and more from throughout the United States and Europe.
Rare Books Palm Springs took place on May 20 and May 21 in Downtown Palm Springs at Hotel Zoso and featured over 40 leading booksellers from across the nation.
As a cultural partner for Rare Books Palm Springs, the UCR Library was provided a unique Eventbrite link that allowed us to promote the opening night cocktail reception to the UCR community and receive 100% of the proceeds. The UCR Library was also able to distribute information on our collections at the event.
If you missed the book fair, you can support SCUA and the UCR Library year-round by making a gift at library.ucr.edu/giving/.
