This 2-unit undergraduate course will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays this fall from 11 - 11:50 a.m. in Orbach Library. UGRD 040 explores different themes each quarter. This quarter’s class is called Informed Imagination: Building Tomorrow with Today's Research and students will evaluate how different fields, from medicine to fashion, use information to solve societal needs.
We will treat information as the fundamental code of society, using speculative world-building as a laboratory to navigate our complex information landscape. You will collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to construct a fictional world grounded in strategic research, while diving deep into contemporary debates like algorithmic bias, data privacy, and information ethics. You will move beyond being a passive consumer to become a strategic architect of information.
