Day of the Dead altar displayed in Rivera Library
On the morning of Friday, October 27, 2018, a gender and sexuality studies class built a special Day of the Dead altar on the first floor of Tomás Rivera Library.
Students of GSST 138 (Gender and the Sex Trade) created a community altar for Dia de Los Muertos to honor the lives of sex workers who were killed on the job, particularly trans women.
Dr. Amalia Cabezas, Associate Professor in UC Riverside's Department of Media and Cultural Studies and the Department of Gender & Sexuality Studies, gave a brief lecture before her students assembled the altar.
The altar will remain on display on the first floor of Rivera Library until Friday, November 2.
